Established in 1999 under the Jammu and Kashmir State Legislature Act, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) is a fully residential, multidisciplinary public university located near Katra in Jammu and Kashmir. Spanning 470 acres at the foothills of the Trikuta Mountains, the campus is divided into administrative, academic, residential, and recreational zones. The university features modern classrooms, over 35 well-equipped laboratories, and the Prof. N.K. Bansal Memorial Library housing more than 50,000 books. Students benefit from on-campus hostel facilities, sports complexes, and dedicated research centers, fostering an environment conducive to academic excellence and personal development. SMVDU is recognized by UGC under Sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act, with technical programs approved by AICTE and the Council of Architecture.
